Flu is caused by Influenza A and Influenza B viruses. The virus is easily transmitted by direct contact (sneezing, coughing, or hands), especially in enclosed spaces, or by indirect contact (e.g., objects, door handles). Infected persons can transmit flu viruses to other people even if they do not feel (yet) sick.
An infected person can be contagious one day before the onset of their first symptoms and can transmit the virus for three to five days.

Flu treatment includes rest, drinking plenty of fluids and taking pain and fever medications. The most commonly used medication is paracetamol (Dafalgan, Panadol, etc.), sometimes anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen (Irfen, Algifor, etc.) are also needed. Sometimes other medications are needed, such as nasal spray for runny nose, throat lozenges, and cough drops or syrup.
